Essential Question: What are the different buildings that make up communities?
Buildings in Communities
Suburban, urban, and rural communities are different in many ways, particularly in the buildings that make them up. What are some examples of types of buildings you already know about?
Because of the different types of jobs, people, and land in different areas of the world, it requires different types of buildings to be built.
In rural areas, the different types of jobs available revolve around agriculture and farming. Because of this reason, barns and farms need to be built. Rural areas are filled with wide, open fields. There are houses far and few between.
Suburban areas are the areas between urban and rural areas. This is where most families live in neighborhoods. People live in houses which are much closer to each other in comparison to rural areas. There are more schools and services in comparison as well.
Urban areas are also called “cities.” Can you think of an example of a famous city? People live in high skyscrapers and apartment buildings in even closer quarters in comparison to suburban and rural areas.
Based on these types of buildings described, what kind of home do you live in? What kind of community do you live in? What kind of communities have you visited or want to visit in the future?
